Using the updated News format with the Highlight on the Left

Notes:

The template is intended for use in a full width 1200 column WPBakery row.

For best display results, your articles should have a featured image properly sized to a 1.5 X 1 ratio no smaller than 600 x 400.





Step 1: Load the WPBakery Template File

  1. Download the template and CSS file.
  2.  Go to the WPBakery/Templatera admin page
  3.  Choose the XML template file download in sub-step 1 as the file to import.
  4. Choose Save Changes.
  5. Go to the WPBakery/Templates admin page and verify your template is there.

Step 2: Insert the Template in the page and adjust settings

  1.  Open the page you want to add the news template to using the Backend Editor.
  2. Use the WPBakery template icon to place the template at the bottom of the page.
  3. Move the template section to where you want it in the page.
  4.  Change the title of the News section as needed to fit your page style and intent of your news content.
  5. Adjust the URL for the Read More Link.



Step 3: Adjust the Template shortcodes as needed

  1. Change the taxonomy type (unit-category, et .) if needed – choices will be either unit-category or unit-tagdepending on which taxonomy type you are pulling from.
  2. Change the taxonomy variable to the taxonomy you want to pull articles from.
  3. If you wish to hide the source line, Published on Date in Georgia State Newshub, change hide_source to true in the shortcodes on the left and right side.
  4. If you wish to show only titles without excerpts on the left hghlight, change title_only to true in the shortcodes on the left and right side.
  5. Note: it may be necessary to adjust the number of articles pulled in the list variable in the shortcode on the right to balance the left and right side depending on long your titles typically are and whether you hide the source.

Step 4: Place the CSS in the custom CSS for the page, save your page and verify.

  1. Place the CSS in the attached text file in the custom CSS for the page (use the gear icon in the top right of the WPBakery window).
  2. Save your page and view to see the results and adjust your list value as needed. Note: the page must be published to see results – if you don’t want your page to be searchable while you are testing, set the page to no-index under the YOAST SEO settings.
