Adding Image Collections to Dropbox and Linking Them to Your WordPress Site

If you have a collection of images that you would like to link to from your GSU WordPress website, or a large amount of images that you would like to add to something like an Advanced Carousel for your viewers to be able to scroll through, you need to store them in your PRM-Web Dropbox folder.  This saves your storage space on your site, as well as the bandwidth on our servers for sharing them.

Upload your images

Upload your images into your PRM-Web Dropbox folder for your site and make them all viewable to anyone with the link (i.e. make them "public"). If you do not have access to your site's PRM-Web Dropbox, submit a request for access on through our ticketing system.

Share an entire folder of images

To share an entire folder of images on your website, put your mouse over the folder and select "SHARE."

Select "COPY LINK" and then select "MANAGE" in order to make the entire folder viewable to anyone with the link.

Then select the "LINK FOR VIEWING" tab, and then click on "CREATE LINK."

Change the access to "ANYONE WITH LINK" and then "SAVE". If you don't select save the link will not be available to anyone with the link.

Copy the link of the folder to your webpage

Click on "COPY LINK" and then paste it into your page wherever you need it. Ensure that it is set to open in a new tab.

Share images in an Advanced Carousel on a webpage

If you want to share a large amount of high-quality images on your site (say photos from a conference or event) and you want them to appear live, on the page, a great option is to use the Advanced Carousel plugin. We still advise that you compress the images using Photoshop (at 70%) or iloveimg.com before uploading them to Dropbox so that they load faster for your end users.

Upload the files as directed above, and then get each of the individual image public links (the "Link for viewing" for "anyone with link" to view).

Open up the WordPress page where you want the images to appear. Add an ADVANCED CAROUSEL element there. Then add a TEXT ELEMENT inside the Advanced Carousel. Remove the Lorem ipsum that appears and add an image from your media folder (it does not matter which image). Then select the "Text" tab.
See example below.

All you need to leave in place is the following: <img src="" alt="" />

Now, take the link from the first image in Dropbox that you want to add to the page. Add that URL to between the quotation marks after "src=". Change the end of the URL from "dl=0" to "raw=1".

Then add an ALT TEXT for the image (a necessary brief description of what appears in the image for ADA 508 compliance) in the quotes after "alt=". If you want to add specific dimensions to the image, you may add those as well.
See example below.

Add more text blocks and image links from Dropbox for however many images you need to add to this Advanced Carousel, then save the page and clear the page cache to view the Advanced Carousel live on your site.
