Redirecting a page or post
If a page on your site moves or is no longer available, or if you want to create a shorter and easier to remember "vanity URL" for long links, you can create a redirect in WordPress to send users to a new page or external site. This is done through the Yoast SEO Redirects tool.
How to create a redirect:
- In the WordPress dashboard, go to Yoast SEO > Redirects. Access may be limited to site administrators.
-
Under “Plain redirects,” add a 301 redirect:
- Enter the full old URL.
- Enter the full new destination URL.
- Click Add Redirect.
- Test the old URL to confirm it redirects correctly.
Common uses:
- Redirect outdated pages to updated content.
- Create short, easy-to-share “vanity URLs” for long links.
- Direct users to external resources like Localist, NetCommunity, or YouTube while keeping a GSU-branded link.
IMPORTANT
Once you have made and saved your Yoast SEO Redirects, go to the left-side menu and find Hummingbird Pro > Caching. Go to that page and click on the “CLEAR CACHE” button. Any new Yoast SEO Redirects you made will not be active to users if you don’t clear your site’s cache.
