Decrease the amount of whitespace at the top of the homepage.
As highlighted here in red: http://cl.ly/image/2e2V05063k3N It feels like a waste of vertical space.

I agree with moving the content up to the top of the page. On a related note, maybe we could widen the page (or add content?) to the space on the sides? I'm reluctant to suggest adding more distracting content, which could defeat the purpose of the new, clean & simple template. However, there is still just a little too much white space on the page.

I agree. On one hand, maybe we could add a background, but let's go with the spirit of the new template and keep everything clean and simple and bold. Maybe we could put the long GSU logo in a banner at the top instead of the compact logo in the corner?
