Adding a Press Release

  • Login to the news site at http://news.gsu.edu/wp-admin (change in the future to news.gsu.edu)
  • On the Dashboard, hover over Posts and click Add New
  • Enter a headline in the Post Title field
  • On the right side of the edit post window select the categories (limit 2 is best) for the post and use the "tag" option to enter "Press Release" (If you type "press" and wait a second it will offer the option to auto fill.  This will ensure it is put in the correct tag.  Do not forget to click add.
  • To add the template to the post, click on Backend Editor near the post title to activate the Visual Composer editor
  • Layouts will appear at the top of the page.  The default is the left rail layout, but you can select it as well.
  • Under the visual editor section, you will see an option to add a template.  Click the button to do so
  • The pop-up window has two tabs.  Select the "My Templates" tab
  • Select Press Release With Sidebar
  • In this template, you can edit the image, content, add a media contact as well as use the news hub experts feature. Any of these features can be removed as well.
  • Continue to edit elements in the back end or switch to "front-end" editing. Should you finish editing on the "front-end" go back to the "back-end" to complete the remaining tasks.
  • Under the visual editor on the back-end, there is a title option. Select "Show".
  • Next you, craft the search and social sharing options.  Under the "Yoast" section, you can enter a keyword and craft the meta information displayed in a search result.  You may also use click the share icon to enter the information for Facebook and Twitter that you would like to auto populate should someone share it.
  • Add a custom excerpt below the "Yoast" function. This will control the excerpt as it is displayed on WordPress pages.
  • Lastly, upload a feature image.  This image should be a 16:9 image and can be the same as the image in the article.
  • To make this post private but to share it with logged in editors, scroll back to the top, select "Visibility" under the publish options and choose private.
  • Publish the page.
